There is one in every left lane, six inches off the bumper with the high beams on. "Tailgate me harder daddy" is the reply, hanging where the rear-view keeps reminding you of it.

Rustic Mahogany wicks through a wooden lid from an 8 ml glass bottle — one of the few funny car accessories that also does a job. Road trips, truck guys, white elephant: this is the one.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How does the oil get out of the bottle?
A: It travels up through the wooden lid, which acts as the wick and lets the scent off into the cabin. Nothing drips and nothing needs pressing.

Q: What do I do when the scent fades on a long drive?
A: Pull over, tip the closed bottle for a second, and hang it back up — the lid re-saturates and the scent comes back for the rest of the drive.

Q: Does the bottle drip once the lid is on?
A: A tightly replaced lid and an upright hang is a combination that does not drip, which is why the directions say to hang it upright and leave it there.

Q: Will it get in the way while I'm driving?
A: It should not, and it must not — never hang it where it obstructs your view, and remember mirror-hanging rules vary from state to state.

Q: Does the scent fade faster in summer?
A: Warm air pulls scent off the wooden lid faster, so a summer car goes through the 8 ml sooner than a winter one. Tip it more often in July.

Q: What should I bring the friend who always drives on road trips?
A: The person driving eight hours deserves a car that smells like something on purpose. Hand it over at the trailhead and it hangs for the rest of the trip.
